How it works
Consultation
We will visit you at home and listen carefully to you so that we understand exactly what your needs from the furniture are. We'll make suggestions on ways to achieve what you want. We'll show you samples of finishes, cabinet door styles and trim details, furniture fitments - anything you want to see first. We will survey the space and assess any particular access requirements. Home consultation is a free** service within London, Kent & East Sussex, though we do also serve the rest of the country & beyond.
Design
We will email you with a digital drawing of your project showing every detail and dimension you need. We'll listen to your feedback on the design and tailor it until you are completely happy. All design work is free in most cases.
Fitting
We always aim for the fitting process to be painless. In order to maintain an absolute minimum of disturbance to your home life, we do as much as we possibly can in the workshop in advance of the fitting to avoid spending any more time than is absolutely necessary in your home. As a result, fittings are often completed within only a single day.
Our small team of experienced fitted furniture installers are hand-picked. They are lovely people - your furniture will be safe in their hands and they will treat your home with the utmost respect.
Fitting is carried out to the highest standard. For shelves & filler boards - where the furniture meets with the walls - these are all precisely shaped to fit the architecture. Existing skirting profiles are matched and great care is taken to achieve a seamless transition between the furniture and the surrounding space.
We never cut anything inside our customer’s homes, we respect that we are working in your home and ensure that we will never leave a mess behind - floors and furnishings are all carefully protected. All our packaging materials are taken away at the end to be recycled, waste is removed and floors vacuumed.
** Following our initial quote, home consultations in London, Kent & East Sussex are not usually charged for, though in certain circumstances, we may ask in advance for the cost of these visits to be paid - in this instance their cost is fully refunded, should you decide to proceed.
*Our promise covers all aspects of our furniture but does not include the breakdown or cracking of flexible filler beads (caulk), if used, as we are unable to guarantee the longevity of these products.
Production
Your project will be handmade to order in one of our two joinery workshops - at The Old Dairy, on a farm surrounded by Kent woodland, or the Print House in the heart of Dalston. Finishing is handled by our sprayers - years of experience shows in the unsurpassed quality of their work.

Everything we make at Milkwood is guaranteed for a year*. If there's a problem, we promise to fix it for you quickly.
